Lila Feldman’s Bat Mitzvah Fun Run raises $10,000!

When Lila Feldman sent out a request to support Forgirlsake for her Bat “Mitzvah” Project, she began with the following statement made by UN Foundation President and CEO, Kathy Calvin:

“Girls are one of the most powerful forces for change in the world: When their rights are recognized, their needs are met, and their voices are heard, they drive positive change in their families, their communities, and the world.”

As part of the journey of becoming a Bar or Bat Mitzvah in their Jewish Community, many young people now incorporate a “Good Deed” Project while simultaneously learning their Hebraic portion of the Torah. More and more, parents, rabbis and teachers are emphasizing that becoming an “adult” also means looking beyond their immediate circle of family and friends, and becoming global citizens. Whether it be local, national or international issues, these teens are choosing projects they are passionate about, and making a world of difference.

Here’s Lila getting sponsors at her temple!

With a heartfelt invitation to “Come run with me!” at Newton North High School on September 22, 2019, and “Donate to Forgirlsake!”, incredulously, with the help of her generous parents, family and friends, Lila has raised $10,000! These funds will go towards helping girls her own age in Uganda by providing them with an educational program that teaches accurate sexual knowledge and how to make reusable menstrual pads. This program is critical in keep girls in school longer, especially in a country where half the female population drops out of school to give birth before the age of 18. At Forgirlsake we are grateful for Lila’s interest in in supporting girls’ education, and for taking a leadership role in spreading awareness on the importance of giving young women everywhere a voice.

Thank you Lila!
