With great gets, takeaway net shots, perfect lobs and high fives, once again, the joy of tennis shines bright at the 2018 Forgirlsake Women’s Doubles Open (FGSO).

The 6th annual Open drew a talented field of dedicated doubles teams from around the Greater Boston Area, selling out all eighty player slots, and raising more than $10,000!

More than half of registrants were returning players, hence a lively scene as friendly competitors socialized before and after their matches.

Corporate supporters such as Spaulding Rehab and The Friends of Newton Tennis offered pre-match warm ups led by professional tennis coaches and physical therapists; athleisure-wear sponsors Peach.com and Athleta hosted mini-trunk shows, and local tennis gear purveyor Boston Ski & Tennis brought their finest sale merch courtside as well.

Players, volunteers and spectators enjoyed the festival atmosphere — our official event photographer, Rachel Martin, catching candid action shots, eight sponsor booths with swagalicious giveaways including fun tennis-themed clothing, jewelry and accessories, as well as complimentary snacks and beverages, and an amazing raffle with dozens of prizes including upscale Ame&Lulu tennis bags, spa services, tennis lessons, racquet stringing, candy gift baskets and more! Most noteworthy: Newton’s first woman Mayor Ruthanne Fuller cameoed at the morning awards ceremony, eloquently remarking on the collective power of “women in action, taking action!” Encouraging words, engaging women! Thank you to all for another exciting, successful FGSO!
